Guide To Choosing The Correct Cycle Shelter Solution

Cycle shelters are mainly used to securely store bikes when, going to a place of work or education. While they are generally employed towards preventing theft, they also protect the bicycles from the surrounding environment, keeping the bike dry for the rider and preventing the early onset of rust.

Construction

All of our cycle shelters are constructed from steel, due to it being strong & robust, it can also be galvanised for ultimate corrosion protection from the elements. Steelwork can also be powder coated to any RAL colour of your choice enabling the structure to fit in with your school colours or building.

Roofing Material

Selecting the correct roofing option for your shelter depends upon the style of shelter you choose.

PET – Roof panels are the most popular choice for our shelters due to their UV properties and durability. The panels can be supplied in various thicknesses; PET also has high impact resistance and can be cut to almost any shape and size; they are easy to install do not yellow over time and are easily maintained.

Plastisol Coated – Roof panels are a cost effective roofing solution for your shelter, they can be supplied in various colours and profiles, and panels can be cut to size to fit awkward out crops. Plastisol panels are corrugated steel sheets coated with PVC based paint; they are very robust and are an ideal alternative roofing solution for you cycle shelter.

All of our products are fabricated from the highest specification material to suit your shelter design. All of our shelters, including bespoke structures, are designed to meet the required levels of wind and snow loadings specific to your area.

Shelter styles

Every shelter has its own unique features, some are designed to fit in with existing buildings, others are state of the art designs to make your shelter stands out. The overall style of your shelter can only be decided by you, and will be something that needs to be discussed with all decision makers before confirming the final design.

The Carolina is our most popular cycle shelter, its lightweight design
and versatility means it can be the ideal shelter in almost every
situation. The Carolina has the highest number of optional extras to
allow it to be the ideal low cost cycle shelter. The standard unit is 4M
in length and can store up to 10 bikes when used with an R10 cycle
rack.

The Maple is one of our larger shelters, giving access from both
sides, ideal as cycle and/or motorcycles store, the standard unit is
4m in length and can store 10 bikes when used in conjunction with
an R10 cycle rack, it can be supplied with a PET or a Plastisol roof.

The Redwood is a robust and versatile storage shelter to suit a
range of requirements it can be used to cover a large area and is
ideal for cycle storage or even for motor bikes. The standard module
is 4m in length, giving a choice of both PET and Plastisol roof
panels. The height means this is an ideal shelter for not only double
tier cycle racks, but also locker storage.

The Chestnut is the little brother of the Redwood; its robust
cantilevered design allows it to be installed in tight spaces where
the Redwood would not be suitable. The standard shelter module
can store up to 10 bikes, and can be supplied with PET or Plastisol
sheets.

The Sycamore is one of our more prestigious shelter designs, the
cantilevered arched end frames make this shelter stand out from the
crowd wherever it is installed either at a school, college or on your
business premises. The standard unit can store up to ten bikes
when used with our R10 cycle rack.

The Rowan is a robust cantilevered shelter; its design allows it to
be installed in tight spaces where other styles of shelters would not
be suitable. Its versatility allows it to be used for a multitude of
storage purposes, ideal as a cycle and/or motorcycle store, or a
covered waiting area. The standard unit can store up to ten bikes
when used with our R10 cycle rack.

The Carolina compound is based on our most popular cycle
shelter. We use the Carolina along with either a Cedar or a
Cypress, complete with end panels & security gates to create large
secure cycle parking areas. The compound can also be supplied
with helmet lockers fitted inside as well as various styles of cycle
racks.

Ordering your shelter

Once you have decided on the type of shelter, you have a few more steps to follow to ensure the purchase and installation of your shelter run as smoothly as possible.  Below is a simple guide of the steps we suggest you take before ordering your shelter.

• Site Survey – We always suggest that you get a site survey conducted before you make your decision on the shelter type, the survey will allow you to see where the shelter will be installed and how it will look on site, and also let you see any unforeseen issues, like doors or windows being blocked, or underground services interfering with the installation of the shelter.  Canopies by Acer offer a free site survey for all of our customers.
• Planning Permission – Before progressing further your enquiry, we suggest that you check with the local council to check if you require planning permission for your shelter. Check with the council that there are no special requirements for the shelter, e.g. height, length or a particular colour.
• Quotation – Once you have had your site survey completed and spent time discussing your requirement with our design team, we will send you a fixed price quotation with our specification and design.
• Placing your Order – Once you are happy with the cost and design of your shelter, and you are ready to order your shelter with us, all that we require from yourselves is a purchase order and we will then send the required paper work to confirm all the details. We will also assign a dedicated project manager to keep you informed of every step of the process from start to finish.
• Drawing Approval – Once your order has been confirmed we will send over a technical drawing for your approval, or the local councils. Once we have received confirmation that the drawing has been approved we can then put your shelter into production, from here we can then arrange the installation date.
• Installation – Your Project Manager will plan your installation with you, confirm the schedule for the installation and book the site team and steel work to arrive. We will ensure we cause the least disruption on site as possible, and we will also adhere to all Health & Safety guidelines whilst working on site.
• Completion – Once your installation has been completed, the site team will clear the area of all debris and ensure the shelter and surrounding area has been cleaned down and hosed, they will then ask you to complete a sign off certificate for the installation.
